Captain's Prize Day - 18.07.20

The Captain's Prize Day was held on Saturday, 18th July, 2020, on a lovely warm day with a mixture of clouds and sunny periods and light to moderate winds.     Prizes were awarded on the basis of three handicap and one scratch in each of the following two categories:-   Group ‘A’ - Drawn from those with a handicap up to 12, and Group ‘B’ - Consisting of those with a handicap of 13 and above.     The successful contestants in group 'A' were first our worthy greenkeeper Gordon MacGregor with a magnificent score of 71(11)60; followed in second place by Ranald Wilkie on 74(9)65; and in third was our Match Secretary Bruce Bett on 74(8)66.     The scratch prize went to Michael Wood with an equally magnificent gross score of 66.      In group 'B' the honours went to Ronnie Douglas with a score of 80(14)66(bih); Ronald Robertson on the same score of 85(19)66; and in third place was Alan Brown on a score of 86(19)67.     The scratch prize in this group went to Eric Middlemas with a  gross score of 80.    Prizes of £45; £35; and £25 were awarded to the three handicap winners in each category and £35 for the lowest gross score.

In addition there were special prizes for Nearest the hole at three selected holes and also Nearest the line at the 8th/17th, with two chances to win at each of these holes.    The players with the skill (or luck) to win the prizes by being nearest the holes were Les Rutherford at the 6th/15th (bottle of whiskey); Colin Finlay at the 7th/16th (bottle of Vodka); and at the 9th/18th Liam Cassidy who received a generous prize of £50 from a sponsor who wishes to remain anonymous.      The winner of the nearest the line prize was Ian Clark (four cans of beer; bottle of prosecco; and a box of chocolates).    A large number of 61 entrants took part in the competition and, as evidenced by the party atmosphere in the after game celebrations (carried out within the current social distancing rules), a great time was held by all.     Next week the competition combines a monthly medal with the annual playing of the D.A. Heard Cup fixture, sponsored by Heard Hamilton Financial Planning.
