This competition, sponsored by Border Safeguard, was played on Saturday, 26th June, in cool and overcast weather with moderate to strong winds from the north east. The winner of the day with a very good score of 83(23) 60 was Grant Kinghorn: second on a score of 68(6)62 was Gerald McMorrow; and third on a score of 81(17)64 was Ian Potts. Fourth was Colin Robinson with a score of 81(16)65; fifth was Gerald Beggs on 80(15)65; and sixth was Ranald Wilkie on 71(6)65. These winners received prizes of £45; £35; £25; £15; £10 and £5 respectively. The nominated two’s holes were the 7th and 18th and six players managed to achieve this feat, those being Peter Henderson & Callum Anderson at the 7th, with Mitch Thomson, Ian Main, Jocky Hume & Gerald McMorrow accomplishing it at the 18th; each receiving £4 for their efforts. David Heard did one better and scored a ‘hole in one’ at the 7th hole and doubled his money to £8. In the time honoured fashion he generously provided a bottle of whiskey for the other contestants. The entry fee was £3, making a total of £177 from the 59 players; £135 was paid out in prize money to the winners, and with £32 being paid out to the 2’s winners, this left £10 for the contingency fund.
Our thanks go to Border Safeguard who have continued to sponsor this competition for a number of years.
