July Medal & Brown Cup
This competition, sponsored by Buccleuch Cleaners Ltd., was played on Saturday, 17th July, in scorching weather with light to moderate winds from the west. The winner on the day with a magnificent net 63 was Callum Anderson. The winners were as follows:- First Callum Anderson with a score of 82(19)63(bih); Second was Bruce Bett on the same score of 71(8)63; Third was Eric Middlemas on a score of 78(13)65(bih); Fourth was Grant Kinghorn on 85(20)65(2ndbih); and fifth was Tom Welsh on a score of 82(17)65(3rdbih). It is worthy of note that Iain Clark had an excellent score of gross 29 for his first nine holes, but unfortunately just missed out on the prizes by finishing with a final score of 68(3)65. Prizes of £40; £30; £20; £10 and £5 were awarded to the above winners. Nominated 2’s holes were the 6th and 18th and three competitors managed this feat; those being Donald Ballantyne and Iain Clark at the 6th and Colin Finlay at the 18th; all of them receiving £8 for their efforts. A total of 49 members took part in the event and at an entry fee of £3 this amounted to £147 for distribution; £105 was paid out in prize money, and with £24 going to the two’s winners, this left £18 for the contingency fund.
