The second round of the Yarrowford Shield, coupled with the postponed October Monthly Medal, was played on Saturday, 9th October, in prolonged showers and moderate to strong winds. The winner on the day with a very good score of 83(19)64 was none other than the ‘Legend’ that is Robert J. Wilson. In second place also with a very good score of 70(5)65 was Jim Rae, and he was closely followed by George Grant on a score of 76(10)66. These winners received prizes amounting to £35; £25 and £15 respectively. The winner of the scratch prize with a good round of 72 was Chris Kemp and he received an award of £20 for his efforts. The nominated two’s holes on this occasion were the 6th and 18th, and whilst only one golfer achieved this feat at the 18th hole, namely Jim Rae, two of them managed it at the 6th, those being George Grant and Harry Borthwick, and they received the princely sum of £5 each for their efforts. A total of 37 members took part and at an entry fee of £3 this amounted to £111 for distribution. With £95 being paid out to the victors and £15 to the two’s winners, this left only £1 for the contingency fund. As Mr. Wilson had already qualified for the Gold Medal as a result of a previous placement, the only addition to the draw for that competition was Jim Rae.
The winner of the Yarrowford Shield with two very good net scores of 65, total 130, was Jim Rae, and he was seven shots ahead of his nearest rival Chris Kemp who had scores of 68 & 69(137); followed by Graeme Bell on scores of 68 & 70(138); and then a quartet including Harry Borthwick; David Beveridge; Les Rutherford and Robert J. Wilson on a total for the two round of 139.
