APRIL MONTHLY MEDAL AND BROWN CUP

Posted on April 24, 2022 | by Bruce Bett

Hooray, Hooray! The ipad thingy worked perfectly thanks to our resident computer genius. No not me. I’m talking about Iain Clark. 52 players this week. That’s a lot of time saved putting in the score cards. Thanks Iain.

The winner this week with a rather impressive 65 was our current Club Champion Michael McVie who squeaked in just ahead of one of our past Match Secretarys Norman Purves on an equally impressive 66 and in third was ex Captain John Coyle (by virtue of a better inward half) on 67. Rodney Pow was 4th on the same score. Jolly well done to you all! Prizes of £45,35,25, and 15 went to the top 4 and £8 each went to Craig Niven, Grant Kinghorn, and Paul McVie for 2’s at the 6th hole. The weather was a bit nippy and the breeze was fairly strong so conditions were not easy as several of us found to our cost… Shirt sleeves next week hopefully for the D A Heard Cup but meantime thanks to Les Millar Garage Services for sponsoring this week’s competition. Over and out.

The Alex Ponton Memorial Cup

Posted on April 16, 2022 | by Bruce Bett

A total of 20 teams entered the tournament bringing in a total of £200 and after a bit of guddling around on the computer the winners were Paul and Michael McVie with a score of 70 -2(68).Second were the pairing of Matthew Brass and Thomas Bell also on 68(77-9) who lost out on the better inward half.In third place were Grant Kinghorn and Hughie Macdonald on 69(86-17). Prizes of £70,£50 and £30 were awarded with £10 for 2’s going to John Coyle/George Grant ,Donald Ballantyne/Jim Rae and Les McAllister/Bruce Bett. The tournament sponsor this week was South East Heating and thanks go to them for their generosity. The full list of results is, or will be on the board in the clubhouse after I’ve hand written them out. Dont ask why. Next week is the April Medal and we will hopefully be able to enter our scores on the ipad. Instructions will be available for the computer illiterate (and that includes me) Finally are there any more members wanting to play in the match v Minto next Sunday? Names on the sheet please. £20 goes to the contingency fund this week.

THE GROUSE TROPHY

Posted on April 10, 2022 | by Bruce Bett

There was only a delay in the start this week. Not a cancellation.Which is a step in the right direction,I’m sure we all agree.Kick off was at 9.30 and a field of 18 teams took to the hill in chilly but sunny weather. The winners of the Grouse Trophy this year were the pairing of Bill Walton and Ronnie Douglas who managed to accumulate a total of 72 stableford points and a massive £50 for their splendid effort.Well done to you both! 3 points behind were Jordan Reid and Grant Lightfoot in second place scooping £40, and in third place were your ex Captain John Coyle and your Match Secretary (that’s me! ) on 67 points with £30 shared between them.

There was a prize of £15 for Gerald McMorrow for nearest the hole at the 9th/18th and £10 each for 2’s for Ali McVie at the 6th and Bill Walton,Gerald McMorrow and yours truly at the 15th. A total of £180 was taken in for entry money and a generous £175 paid out leaving a measly £5 for the contingency fund.See you all next week for the Alex Ponton Memorial Cup which is a Foursomes Stroke. That’s drives at alternate holes and then hit about. There is a match scheduled with Minto on Sunday 24th April and there are only 7 names down on the sheet in the clubhouse. We could do with at least 3 more names….

Sorry. Forgot to mention our generous sponsors for this competition who were The Wednesday Club. Many thanks to you all!

The Stableford Trophy

Apologies to you all.On reflection I was a bit quick in cancelling the competition this morning. An hours delay would have sorted the issue of fog and snow.I will know better next time.
