CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP-ROUND 3

Posted on May 31, 2022 | by Bruce Bett

Thats it. Done and dusted. And this weeks blind squirrel was…Norman Purves with 76-13=63 who managed to find the nut just before Andrew Webster who was also on the same score with 78-15=63 with Paul McVie again in the prizes on 67-1=66 and Gordon Inglis ( who has obviously found a bit of form since he duffed it round in about 100 in the first round ) in 4th on 71-4=67. RDB claimed the scratch with 69-1=68. The usual £40,£30,£20,and £10 go to the winners and £20 for scratch. I’m not sure who had 2’s because I was getting squiffy at St Andrews, but the results are on the board in the clubhouse if you are interested. Qualifiers for the Club Championship are as follows-Paul McVie on 131 ,RDB on 140, Michael McVie on 142, Iain Clark on 144, Gordon Inglis on 147, Chris Kemp on 149, Colin Finlay on 150, Grant Lightfoot on 151, Alister McVie on 151, Les McAllister on 152, Rodney Pow on 152, Matthew Brass on 152, Colin Robinson on 153, Michael Wood on 154, John Coyle, who will be very smug on 154, and Jimmy Rae on 154. Reserves are John Hume, Scott Galloway, Les Rutherford, Billy Macdonald , Norman Roxburgh, and Gerald McMorrow.

Thanks to the sponsors Dental Accountants Scotland and everybody who helped out in my absence with the scores, money etc. Next week is the Centenary Cup.

CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER ROUND 2 – 2022

Posted on May 23, 2022 | by Bruce Bett

The McVie Family (well 2 of them anyway) dominated the second qualifying round with Paul carding an impressive 64-1=63 and his Daddy squeaking into second place by virtue of a better inward 3 on 75-8=67 with Colin Robinson on the same score in third and Billy Macdonald in fourth place with 75-7=68. El Capitan claimed the scratch prize with a 72(bih) from computer guru Iain Clark(who gets nothing) and prizes of £40,30, 20, and £20 were dished out to the podium places. Seven 2’s claimed £4 each divided among Paul McVie, Colin Robinson,John McKenzie,Liam Cassidy,Graeme Bell,Les Rutherford and Rory Monks.Congratulations to you all, Last chance saloon next week so its time for some of you to up your games. I will unfortunately be away (and some of you might think that’s a good thing) but I will be whirling like a dervish around my handbag at a wedding.Good luck next week. Sponsor was Dental Accountants Scotland to whom a grateful thanks for their financial support. Oh! By the way the Senior Open 3 man team event on 31st May is cancelled.Only 7 teams entered,

Championship Qualifier Round 1. Medal and Brown Cup

Posted on May 16, 2022 | by Bruce Bett

A bit of a mouthful for the heading this week, but its the start of the lead up to the Premier event of the year (as Jocky would say) and we are off and running. Cruising up on the inside rail (see where I’m going with this) was Matthew Brass who romped home ahead of the field to win in splendid fashion. But wait! There may be a stewards inquiry about his overly generous handicap! A stiffly worded email is on its way to the SGU! or should that be the British Horse Racing Authority? I’m waffling a bit here because I cant remember what his score was!Oh yes. A sparkling 74-6=65 Well done Matthew .Club Championship beckons if you keep that up! Beaten by a short head was John Boy Walton in second place with 82-15=67 and third place went to the thoroughbred Painter and Decorator extrordinaire Ian Potts on 86-18=68. 4th place went to Graeme Bell who might have been better off on his bicycle instead of the donkey that he was riding but nevertheless he trotted in with 81-13=68.The prize for best gross score was won by our resident Club Champion Michael McVie with 69-2=67

Well done to the leading runners and riders who trousered £40 £30,£20,and £10 respectively with Michael earning £20 for his best gross score.Who said the new handicap system favours the higher handicapper? I want to know what goes into his horse feed.

With a rollover of £21 from last week and a further £27 to be added from this week the 2’s were worth winning and Mitch Thomson and Chris Kemp were the only ones to scoop the fund, earning £24 each for their efforts

The hole in one fund which is generously funded by RDB rises to £55.40 and Donald has bought a fresh pair of trousers just in case the worst happens……

THE BOGEY TROPHY

Posted on May 9, 2022 | by Bruce Bett

Perfect weather conditions for the competition. Almost took my sweater off. The Hole in One rollover rises to £44.90p and nobody managed to get a 2 so the fund also rolls over to next week with £21 in the kitty as a result. 3 squirrels tied for 1st place on 3up on the course and chief squirrel this week was Gerald McMorrow by virtue of a fine inward half of 34.Good for you Gerald! Modesty forbids me from gloating but some kind person handed in my golf swing this week and your Match Secretary claimed 2nd place as a result, also by a better inward half. In 3rd place was Ian Stephenson who is peaking just in time for the Qualifying rounds for the Club Championship which start next week .Prizes of £40,30,and 20 go to the squirrels, and again, nothing for Ali McVie who was 5th= this week! The consensus in the clubhouse last Saturday was that 4 prizes should be paid out if more than 45 players enter a competition and 5 if more than 50 and 6 if more than 60. There were 42 competitors this week who paid their entry money and one who shall be nameless, who didnt! £126 in and £90 out with £21 for the 2’s and £15 for the contingency fund. Everyone managed to put their scores in correctly this week. We will have you all computer literate before long .Pip Pip.

D.A.Heard Cup

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally. And this weeks’ blind squirrel with a magnificent score of 76-13 (63) is Harry Borthwick who wins a massive £45 and a reduction in handicap from 14.1 to 12.5.Well done Harry! See.Practice pays. Two shots further back with a sparkling 86-21 (65) was Neil Purves who is obviously picking up some hot tips from our current Club Champion-something I could do with. Neil pockets a cool £35. On 72-6 (66) is the bearded one. Grant Lightfoot. I pulled his brothers beard not so long ago thinking it was Grant .Oops! Grant trousers a paltry £25 for his efforts but that’s better than Ali McVie who was 4th and gets nothing! Shame! The 2,s (and there were only 4) earned £5 each- Les Rutherford and Jimmy Rae at the 9th and leaving it late at the 18th were Les McAllister and Jordan Reid. A total of 46 competitors battled it out and those in the morning had perfect conditions whereas the afternoon starters didn’t. I played in the afternoon which accounts for my 88. If anyone finds a golf swing lying around on the course, its mine. I lost it somewhere between the Clubhouse and the 2nd tee

Donald tells me that the Hole in One pot has grown to £40.90 so everyone must try harder. Also there is a distinct lack of interest in the Quaich and Summer Foursomes. Sheets are on the board. Use it or lose it. Thank you to Heard Hamilton Financial Planning for the Sponsorship this week .Old David Heard will reach the 60 milestone this Tuesday so get him to buy you a drink. A yellow card has been shown to Ron Robertson for the shrapnel in the envelope. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Next week is the Bogey Trophy and hopefully the 5 players who cant work the ipad will get it right!! No names but………
